Salzburg and more

concert in mirabelle
roomie and me

kept hearing "this is just like harry potter"

these smiles are just like the ones in harry potter

Mozart balls

Salt mine thug

So I forgot my camera for Salzburg. Of course I did, because apparently it’s the most beautiful city in all of Europe… Aubrey and I shared photo memories. We thought it would be a good idea to take lots of seemingly candid shots of each other. That these candid shots would be somehow the best for us… Notice no “candid” ones. Sound of music songs were sung the entire trip. We climbed every mountain, well at least one. Saw Hellbrun. The 16 going on 17 gazebo. Mozart’s birthplace. Mirabelle gardens (Doe a dear). The fortress. Greek dancers getting really drunk. Salt mines with costumes plus miners slides. Marionette of the magic flute. And lots.
Today it rained. And we had lectures outside in that rain. Trying to see the top of a church whilst rain is being dumped into your eyeballs is not a wonderful thing. Bike ride in the rain tomorrow will be similar. Wishing I brought goggles.

Prater, Third Man anyone?
Jonathan knows how to meet his needs

Mozart, Mozart, Mozart...

The famous Sacher Torte
Oper Ceiling

Clap for the rainbow
Went to Prater with the Griendels. Jonathan found that balloon that he needed. So Georg climbed on top of the roof of the building and Birgit whipped out a pocket knife from who knows where. And we now have a giant balloon. Alas the balloon wouldn’t fit through the doors at the uban so Georg walked it home. Muscled down a ton of cake today. All they eat is cake and bread and cream. And then went to the opera “The magic flute”.
Famous Sacher torte: 4:80 euro +sugar sickness. Opera standing room tickets: 3:50 euro+3 hours in line+ standing the whole opera. The Oper won the day. I loved it, so beautiful.

Albertina

Kokoschka

Durer

Our German professor, when asked about German grammar its use and etiquette responded with his thick Austrian/Irish accent that, “some people follow Jesus and some people don’t, it’s the same with grammar.” After class we went shopping in a cheaper area of Vienna. I thought it was great but I was in ecstasy because I bought a hat. So maybe it wasn’t that great, I couldn’t say. Went to the Albertina museum today. I was very excited because Oskar Kokoschka and an exhibition from Monet to Picasso where there, as well as Paul Klee whom I didn’t know very much about. As well as Michelangelo, Albrecht Durer, Rembrandt and Rubens. Starvation had set in as soon as we got to the museum. 5 hours later it was necessary to go to the market. There I got tricked into eating hot peppers and buying pinky nail sized strawberries. But a nice man gave me a big piece of ship cheats… (Sheep cheese I’m guessing).

Bratislava

bratislavaBlake and Emily, slavic zombie food

I am excited that its possible for me to be perched
on someones shoulder

hollo o meorers (we didnt understand what she want us to look at)

I call this, monks who chat.

Bratislava: went to the American embassy, gold club treatment for just flashing the passport. Found the information center, things are slightly cheaper with the euro worth more. Wandered. Asked where the best place to eat was and ate with the locals. The s(something) pub. The food was great and cheaper than anything in Vienna. Saw lots of things. Went to the castle. It was closed. Walked back down. Did some fashion critiquing and monk stalking, for they went to the prettiest places, and took a boat ride up the Danube back to Vienna. Much too tired for fancy sentence structure. And details.

turks in turbs

Karlskirche

adding some flare to his life
well mostly just to his eyeware

Harry who?

So today we were late to fine arts. We missed the bus so we took a taxi to the uban station. 5 euro and a few American pick up lines and Frank Sinatra quotes later we got on the u and still we were10 mins late and the class had left without us. Getting directions from random people in German was fantastic because apparently the Wien museum is located in 5 different places. And everyone failed to mention that it was right next to a very beautiful, very noticeable from all directions, landmark karlskirche. So, an hour later we got to the museum. Which was grand, lots of fabulous paintings of Turks in turbans with long flowing mustaches, having a stereotype confirmed so factually with a dated painting was the perfect uplift.

Later in the day I found that disturbing Harry Potter book 7. Who is that on the cover, which one is Voldermort? I don’t know. Both characters are equally sinister. Apparently in book seven in Austria Voldermort and the creature of the black lagoon duke it out, harry potter is nonexistent.

sun+monday

a room with a view.
unfortunately it is a rather large view for them
of whomever might shower
sunday cake with the griendls and neighbor
people just kept showing up
Today we went to class all day. I cannot go by Alex here, “It is a boy’s name, and it is very wrong, for you are not a male.” They also can actually pronounce Alexandra, so it is alright… dim-witted America. Fine arts was , um well I considered leaving because I thought I was in learn how many maps I can show you class. German was great, I even at one point found that I was clapping my hands whilst laughing obnoxiously loud. Sunday was heroic, as they should be. All I got from the full 5 hours of church was about 5 words, 2 of them being Jesus Christ. The hero work however was afterwards when we found a giant recluse spider in the building and killed it therefore saving hundreds of people from its debilitating gangrene effects and per chance even a ghastly death. We celebrated with cake. Ok It wasn’t exactly my shoe that killed it. But it might as well have been. And we didn’t actually celebrate me, but there was cake. And maybe it wasn’t a recluse, but it was giant and it was a spider. So… same thing really.

Johnathan which is pronounced like yawn atden
Matthias...

obsevation made-neon red hair with a lip ring
= trendy

I wanted a picture with those green trash cans, what is all that other crap

concert
stephensdom-concert 0-euro

“They sleep too long they have died” Johnathan woke us up at noon. He is 5 and speaks no English. We figured out what he was saying through his excellent acting. The chains helped in conveying death. We learned a lot of germen today, through “was ist das” –ing everything. Then we had “fruhstuck fast” breakfast party he thought it was funny that breakfast was a break party. We went into the city. I saw a husky dog, big head, normal body, no legs just feet. Met a waiter who wanted to show us around Vienna. Matthias, don’t worry I didn’t spell it wrong because he gave me his card. He took us to his favorite coffee shops and then we went to Stephensdom, he blamed the Americans for bombing the roof, and heard the end of a concert. “European” goodbye and now I’m home in bed. I can’t wait for German church. It’s hard enough to stay awake when you understand what they are saying. (I love “ “).

The flight was wonderful, everyone was very jealous of my pod experiance, thank you ken! First day in Vienna was brilliant. Had a study abroad miracle, I can walk. Got lost for an hour because we were determined to use every form of transportation available to us to get to class. Pretended I spoke perfect German, I even complemented a baby. Went to the market had lunch. Lost in Rathause. Cake, more cake. came home late and starving georg gave us grandpas strudel and we took some schniztel with jam.
